You can up your protein intake, that helps, just don’t go overboard (I’d say no more than 75% of your bodyweight (in pounds) in grams). The most vital time to take in protein is immediately after your workout. Eat a protein rich food like tuna or a steak, or drink a protein shake. And make sure that you eat some carbs too, like rice, crackers or bread to maximize the protein absorption, this is very vital.
Make sure you’re getting plenty of vitamins in, your body needs them to build and retain muscle. It’s best to get these from whole sources – fruits and vegetables. But a multivitamin can help too.
And one mistake most people make is with rest time. The ONLY time that your muscles grow is when they are resting. And when you lift weights, you’re muscles are completely breaking down and take at least 48-72 hours to rebuild. So make sure that you’re not working those same muscles within that time period, or they will not grow to their full potential.
